The British Council, as part of the UNESCO Mondiacult Conference in Mexico City at the end September, is presenting and sharing its research and work around how education and culture contributes to the UN Sustainable Development Goals at the International Forum World Universities: national cultural policies and sustainable development hosted by Universidad Iberoamericana Ciudad de México as part of the lead up to the Ministerial Conference in Mexico City.

The British Council will be sharing findings and learning from three of its recent research reports exploring the UN SDGs such as 'The role of tertiary education in development: A rigorous review of the evidence', ‘The Missing Pillar: Culture’s contribution to the SDGs' and also 'Role of international higher education partnerships in contributing to the sustainable development goals'.

This most recent report found International higher education partnerships contribute to the SDGs by helping students, academics, industry and wider society to share knowledge and ideas, to drive research and innovation, and to build skills through teaching and learning and in practice. However, the SDGs are interlinked and unlikely to be achieved in isolation, highlighting the need for interdisciplinary approaches.

The study also finds that mutual trust and open communication, a shared vision and long-term commitment to working together are vital to the success of the partnerships, along with the engagement of senior institutional leaders.
